First Week at GOTR

Hello Everyone,

I am very excited to be interning with Girls on the Run this semester. This organization deals with mentoring and aiding young girls becoming the best versions of themselves through fun mentorship. GOTR’s mission is to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running. They envision a world where every girl knows and activates her limitless potential and is free to boldly pursue her dreams.

What I really like about GOTR are their core values that they honor with each and every young girls that participates through this program. They strive to make each girl to:

*Recognize their power and responsibility to be intentional in their decision making
*Embrace their differences and find strength in their connectedness
*Express joy, optimism and gratitude through their words, thoughts and actions
*Nurture their physical, emotional and spiritual health
*Lead with an open heart and assume positive intent
*Stand up for themselves and others

I will be assisting Girls on the Run (GOTR) of the Big Bend as an administration intern and as an assistant and/or substitute coach for a team of elementary aged girls in grades 3-5 who are participating in the program this spring. The administration intern position is flexible to meet the needs of both the student and GOTR organization and includes research for potential school and community sites, data compilation, community outreach at tabling and other public events, and assisting the Board of Directors with various committee work in order to best implement events such as their Comcast Cares Day project, the Sneaker Soiree, donor appreciation events, and our signature celebratory 5k at the end of the season.

I am excited for what to come with GOTR this semester and I am looking forward to share my experiences with you all as they come.

Best,

Mylourie Dorceus
